Fourth Tapioca meeting, next meeting and some good news

The fourth TAPIOCA meeting was held in CEERMA-UFPE, Recife on November 26-28. We have been honoured by the presence of Marcelo Leão, Vice-rector and elected-rector – UFRPE; Rita Maia, Responsible of the International Cooperation – UFRP; and Moacyr Araujo, vice-rector UFPE, coordinator-UFPE-IJL TAPIOCA. The current excellent interactions between UFPE and UFRPE authorities are clearly an added value to foster the activities of TAPIOCA.

The next TAPIOCA’s meeting will be held in Recife on May 5-7, 2020; please save the date. This meeting will be coupled with a TRIATLAS project meeting.

We also have a batch of good news.

IRD funded various proposals for 2020:

– Two-year assignment for Ariane Koch-Larrouy (IRD/LEGOS) in UFPE to work on AMAZOMIX data;

– One year prolongation for Fabrice Hernandez to follow up the implementation of SWOT Brazil;

– Mobilities Brazil-France for Flavia Lucena-Frédou, Thierry Frédou and Xiomara Garcia

– Mobilities France-Brazil for Sophie and Arnaud Bertrand

– ‘Jeune équipe associée’ TABASCO: Seabird ecology in the Brazilian Tropical Atlantic, Co-PIs (G. Tavares, S. Bertrand)

From CAPES-PrInt project we obtained the following fundings:

– Mobilities Brazil-France for Minto Dioune and A. Nathanael Dossa (both PhD students at UFPE) – Mobility France-Brazil for Bastien Merigot (UM/MARBEC)

From the Project Mixcroplastix:

– Mobility for Anne Justino (PhD student at UFRPE)

In addition, A. Koch-Larrouy won a project ‘MIAMAZ’ funded by the CNES/France that is part of the AMAZOMIX survey project. The projects EU H2020 ‘PADDLE’ (PI Marie Bonnin) and CAPES-COFECUB ‘SMAC’ (PIs F. Lucena-Frédou and A. Bertrand) have been positively evaluated at mid-term and will continue for two more years. Finally, the LMI TAPIOCA was also evaluated after the first two years and we anticipate a positive appraisal.

Happy 2020!
