The Terra Mar exhibition was part of the World Oceans Day program organized by the MARBEC research unit, helping introduce children to the world of marine biodiversity and the connections between terrestrial and oceanic environments.
On June 4, the Ifremer station in Sète, southern France, welcomed nearly one hundred elementary school students for a day dedicated to the discovery of the oceans and scientific research. The initiative was organized by the MARBEC research unit, which has been promoting educational activities in celebration of World Oceans Day since 2023.

Among the highlights of the program was the Terra Mar exhibition, an initiative linked to the science outreach activities of LMI TAPIOCA that invites the public to reflect on the ecological continuity that exists among the coastal and marine ecosystems of the Atlantic Ocean. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the activity introduced students to the connections between mangroves, coastal zones, marine biodiversity, and the human communities that depend on these ecosystems.
Throughout the event, 98 children from local schools participated in workshops led by scientists, engineers, technicians, and graduate students affiliated with the institutions that make up MARBEC. The activities addressed topics such as fish life cycles, the importance of phytoplankton for oxygen production, shark and ray conservation, the use of artificial intelligence in oceanographic research, and ecological interactions in lagoon ecosystems.
